Cancelling a supplementary insurance (LCA)
Supplementary insurance (LCA) is optional and governed by each insurer's contract. The cancellation rules differ from basic insurance.
- Usual expiry on 31 December, often with 3 months' notice (letter before the end of September).
- Check your policy: some contracts have a minimum term (often 1 to 3 years).
- Unlike basic insurance, the insurer can refuse a new supplementary policy based on your health: do not cancel before you have a confirmation.
★ Good to know
Golden tip: first sign the new supplementary policy, then cancel the old one. Doing it the other way round may leave you without cover.
